During New Testament times, it was customary for the Jews to pray three times a day, at nine in the morning, noon, and three in the afternoon. In Acts 3:1, we see Peter and John headed for the temple at prayer time, three in the afternoon.
Is it a coincidence that Jesus was crucified at nine in the morning (Mark 15:25)? Does the coincidence continue when Mark tells us that that darkness came over the land at noon? And why does Matthew inform us that Jesus died at three in the afternoon?
We know that the wicked men who crucified Jesus did what God’s power and will had decided beforehand should happen (Acts 4:28). Did God select these critical times during that fateful day to emphasize Israel’s abandonment of him or was it just a coincendence?
