I didn't write this but think it says what we as Christians should be doing now. Enjoy and think

The election results are in.
Barack Obama will serve a second
term as President. I can’t imagine how exhausted he and Michelle must be. I
can’t imagine how exhausted Mitt and Ann Romney must be.
And I think everyone on both sides of the political fence would
agree that the American people are exhausted as well.
In our congregation, I know people of every race who voted for
President Obama. I also know people of every race who voted for Governor
Romney. This election has been called one of the polarizing in the history of
this country. That’s because it is fresh and in front of us right now.
The truth is that there have been vicious elections
throughout the history of this country. The name calling in this election
didn’t match some that occurred during the 1800’s. But arguing that point
really misses *the* point.
Because here’s the
thing: For the Christian, we have bigger fish to fry. Regardless of whether our
guy won or lost. Regardless.
We have a mandate.
And I’m not talking about politics. As Christ-followers, the election results
didn’t change our purpose and mission in life even one bit. Win or lose. Our
call is still to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and then
turn and unleash that love on our neighbors. That’s not my idea. Jesus said it
(Matthew 22:34-40 & Mark 12:30-31).
So if
your guy won, you are happy and if your guy lost, you’re not. You may think
God’s will was absolutely done and you may think it absolutely was not. And we
won’t know for absolute certain in this lifetime. And that’s ok. You know
why?
God is Sovereign.
In the end, God wins. He takes His people home, both Democrats
and Republicans. Both Aggies and Longhorns (there may be more people who doubt
that than the political parties!).
So if your guy
won, as a follower of Christ, don’t gloat. It reflects poorly on the name of
Christ. And if your guy lost, don’t whine or make excuses. It reflects poorly
on the name of Christ. Run far away from name-calling. Don’t get involved in
toxic water cooler talk.
Instead, pray today like
you prayed yesterday. For the country. For her leaders. For people who don’t
know Jesus. For people who do know Jesus.
And
above all, remember this: What binds us together is far more important and
powerful than what separates us. The blood of Christ trumps political
affiliations.
Every time.
You know why?
God is
Sovereign.
